Ski Holidays to Bansko

Introduction

If you are looking for a ski resort that compares to those in Switzerland and France, but is significantly cheaper, Bansko in Bulgaria is an excellent option. This is Bulgaria’s biggest and most popular ski resort, and for good reason. Bansko has modern facilities, a wide range of accommodation and dining options, and beautiful views of the Pirin Mountains. This is a great place to learn how to ski, do some hiking, or simply enjoy the fresh, clean mountain air. It should be noted that Bansko can get very crowded during European holidays, so it is best to plan your trip accordingly.

Activities

Bansko is mostly known as a ski resort town, and many people flock to the slopes here to learn how to ski and snowboard or brush up on their downhill skills. The resort boasts 75 kilometres of ski runs and 27 lifts, including a gondola. Many of the runs are suitable for beginners or intermediate skiers; however, there are some expert runs as well. Visitors on a ski holiday to Bansko can rent ski equipment in the town or enrol in one of the many excellent ski schools here.

Although Bansko is better known as a winter ski resort, the summer is an excellent time to visit as well. During the summer there are fewer crowds, meaning the resort is much quieter and more peaceful than in the winter. Those who visit in the summer can go hiking on one of the many trails through lush pine forests; visit ancient ruins that date back to 100 BC, or visit the town of Banya just 5 kilometres away to soak away stress and tension in one of the thermal mineral springs.

One of the most unique things about Bansko is the presence of traditional Bulgarian taverns called “mehani”. Here visitors can sample a taste of authentic Bulgarian culture, cuisine, wine, and beer. A typical mehana will feature rustic décor, lively music, friendly service, and tasty dishes such as roasted meats, stuffed peppers, and fresh salads. In addition to the taverns, visitors on a holiday to Bansko can find modern international restaurants, inviting cafes, and thumping nightclubs.
