This is one of the most magical regions in Italy, with much to offer travellers. What to see and do on a Holiday to Abruzzo

Many travellers to Abruzzo start their holiday in the picturesque capital of L’Aquila. The city is located at the foot of the Gran Sasso mountain, and features more than enough historic buildings and monuments to keep travellers busy for days on end. For stunning views of the town and a bit of history, visit the 16th century Spanish fort, situated high on a hill overlooking L’Aquila. The 13th century Fontana delle Novantanove Cannelle is an interesting fountain with 99 jets, and Renaissance church of Bernardino of Siena is a lovely sight for its elegant sculptures.

Abruzzo Holidays

Outdoor enthusiasts on a holiday to Abruzzo will never be bored here, with so many options to get outside and enjoy the fresh air and views. Hiking is very popular here, as there are many rolling valleys and hillsides with intriguing abandoned towns. The Parco Nazionale d’Abruzzo is the place to go to see fascinating plant and animal life, and the 15 ski resorts in the region offer plenty of winter fun in the snow, as well as some of the best slopes in the country.

Then of course, there are the beaches. The 129-kilometres of coastline in Abruzzo offer sandy coves and golden beaches, lapped by the deep blue waters of the Adriatic Sea. Beach resorts abound, where you can spend your days sunbathing on the sands, swimming or snorkelling in the sea, and enjoying fabulous Italian food and wine in the many waterfront restaurants and bars. Vasto and Silvi Marina are two of the most popular resorts along the coast of Abruzzo.
