Holidays to Marrakech

Introduction

You cannot come to Morroco without spending at least a day or two in Marrakech. This bustling city is a delight for the senses, with the winding labyrinth-like laneways of the Medina, the colourful stalls of the souks packed with everything from shoes to spices, the lovely gardens and crumbling palaces, and the modern and chic boutiques and restaurants in the Ville Nouvelle, the newer section of the city. If you are looking for a city break that surprises at every turn, look no further than Marrakech.

What to see and do on a Holiday to Marrakech

The Medina is the old section of Marrakech where you will find the beating heart of the city. Start at the Djemaa El-Fna, the central square where you can find snake charmers, dancers, musicians, acrobats, and food stalls. Head to the souks to barter over carpets, handbags, jewellery, and leather goods. The tanneries are an interesting spot to visit to see leather being tanned and dyed, although be warned- you may want to grab some mint leaves to sniff, as the smell can be quite powerful here.

Marrakech Holidays

Outside of labyrinth that is the Medina, there are many interesting sites to see in Marrakech. Visitors can escape the busy streets of the city in the Majorelle Gardens or the Menara Gardens, where you can stroll down pleasant pathways to see exotic plants and flowers, and stop in peaceful sun-dappled pavilions. The Bahia Palace is also an interesting historical monument for its elegant rooms that look out over a spacious courtyard, and its air of 19th century wealth and pomp.

Visitors on a holiday to Marrakech will also be spoiled for places to eat and drink. The Medina is packed with food stalls selling tasty tajines, healthy salads, sandwiches, and refreshing fruit juices. For more up scale eateries, head to Ville Nouvelle, where you can find stylish cafes, fine dining restaurants, and trendy bars and lounges.
