Holidays to Vama Veche

Introduction

For travellers looking for a beach holiday off the beaten path, Vama Veche on the Black Sea coast in Romania is a great option. This small seaside village has a very bohemian vibe to it, and does not see the large masses of package holiday tourists that other beach resorts in the region do. In addition, local campaigns have prevented rampant development from happening, so the village still has a rustic fishing village feel to it.

What to see and do in Vama Veche

Most people who go on holiday to Vama Veche spend their entire time on the beach, camping in tents. The water here is calm and warm in the summer months, the beach is wide and sandy, and tents, fires, and nudity are allowed. On the weekends, the sand fills up with partiers and sun worshippers from Romania and abroad.

A Beach in Varma Veche

Vama Veche is also host to a very popular music festival that takes place every year at the end of the summer season in August or September. The Stuff Stock Music Festival was founded in 2003 as a way to protest against mass tourism and development in the village. Each year the event draws thousands of alternative music lovers who come to listen to the bands play on the beach.

Despite the fact that Vama Veche is not ultra-touristy, visitors can still find a wide variety of food and drink here. Those on holiday to Vama Veche can indulge in fresh fried fish, traditional Romanian dishes, pizza, pasta, crepes, salads, cold beer, and wine. During the summer, restaurants and bars along the beach serve food and drinks 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Another draw to Vama Veche is its close proximity to many exciting beach resorts. From here, travellers can visit the golden sands of Mamaia, Mangalia, and Jupiter in Romania and Varna in Bulgaria. In addition, there are many buses and mini-buses that run frequently between Constanta and Vama Veche.
