Holidays to Nerja

Introduction

Nerja may share space on the Costa del Sol with resorts such as Marbella and Malaga, but this pretty seaside town has a much more authentic Spanish fishing village feel to it than some of the other big resorts. The resort is located on a hillside at the feet of the Sierra Almijara mountains, and its sandy beaches and rocky outcroppings look out over the azure waters of the Mediterranean Sea. The natural surroundings here lend themselves to a wide variety of outdoor activities and stunning sights.

What to see and do on a Holiday to Nerja

Strolling through the streets of Nerja is a very pleasant experience, as there are many pedestrian-only boulevards, historic buildings, and incredible vistas out to the sea from hillside vantage points. The Balcon de Europa is the main attraction in the town, and well worth a visit. This is the main promenade, basked in shade by the palm trees lining the street, and stretching all the way down to the waterfront. Along either side of the walkway there are inviting cafes and shops, as well as the occasional street performance. The promenade ends on a rocky headway that juts out onto the water, affording incredible views of the coast and sea.

Nerja holidays

For an interesting day trip, visitors on a holiday to Nerja can head to the Caves Of Nerja. This fascinating system of caverns stretches for 5 kilometres under the ground, and features interesting rock formations and vast caverns that are often host to concerts and dance performances. Visitors can take a guided tour of the caves or brave it alone. There is even a restaurant on site for those who feel hungry after exploring the caverns.

Nerja is also a playground for outdoor sports enthusiasts, with 13 kilometres of beaches and forested foothills and mountains nearby. Some popular activities on the beaches of Nerja include sailing, fishing, scuba diving, windsurfing, parasailing, and kayaking. The small secluded coves are also a great place to soak up the sun and enjoy some privacy. For those who prefer to stay on land, the mountains are the perfect place to do some mountain biking, rock climbing, canyoning, or hiking.
