Holidays to Fuerteventura

Introduction

Sun worshippers have been coming to Fuerteventura for centuries to take in the year-round warm and sunny weather, the white sand and volcanic black sand beaches, and the picturesque villages that dot the coastline and interior of this gorgeous island in the Atlantic Ocean. While not the biggest of the Canary Islands, Fuerteventura certainly does not lack enticing attractions for travellers of all types.

What to do in Fuerteventura

The beaches in Fuerteventura are some of the best in the Canary Islands chain, which is why they are sought after by people from around the globe. Visitors on a holiday to Fuerteventura can soak up the sun on the sands, snorkel in the crystal clear waters, or sail around the island to take in the incredible views from the sea. Scuba diving is also popular here, as are surfing, windsurfing, kite surfing, and boogie boarding.

Fuerteventura Holidays

Fuerteventura has seen a number of different cultures settle on its shores, and this is evident in the many interesting archaeological sites on the island. One of the most fascinating sites is on Tindaya mountain, where settlers from long ago carved intriguing figures of feet into the smooth walls of rock at the top of the mountain. As an added bonus, the views from the top of Tindaya are absolutely breathtaking, as they sweep out over the ocean and to the peak of Teide Mountain on the neighbouring island of Tenerife.

For a break from the beaches, the towns of Betancuria and La Oliva make for a scenic day trip. Betancuria was the old capital of the island, and today it features a church built in the 17th century, a captivating archaeological museum, and many handicraft workshops where you can buy unique souvenirs straight from the artists. La Oliva is a pleasant place to spend a morning or afternoon for its 17th and 18th century houses, a charming church with a beautiful altar painting, and a large contemporary art gallery.
