Holidays to Gran Canaria

Introduction

Gran Canaria offers everything a traveller could possibly want and more. Here you can find stunning white sand beaches, steep mountain slopes and lush green valleys, intriguing cave dwellings, and beautiful resorts with stylish shops, inviting restaurants, and lively bars and nightclubs. In addition, the island has many attractions to keep people of all ages entertained for weeks on end.

What to see and do on a Holiday to Gran Canaria

Many people come to Gran Canaria to enjoy the long wide stretches of white sand that span the southern coast. The sun shines here almost year round and the temperatures are balmy, making this the perfect beach getaway. Maspalomas is a very popular resort with travellers on a holiday to Gran Canaria because the spacious beach here stretches for 12 kilometres and the water is calm and shallow. The Sand Dunes of Maspalomas are an arresting sight, especially when viewed from the back of a camel plodding over the undulating sands.

Gran Canaria holidays

Families will not want to miss a visit to the Palmitos Park, where there are colourful and exotic birds on display including parrots, eagles, flamingos, and hummingbirds. There are also dolphin shows, gibbons, a butterfly house and a cacti garden. Aqualand is another popular spot with people of all ages for its exciting water slides, refreshing pools, and fun rafting rivers. This is a great alternative to the beaches and an ideal spot to cool down on a hot day.

For a day trip like no other, head to the cave dwellings of Guayadeque. Here visitors can climb steep rock faces to explore the ancient homes of the Guanche people who resided in the caves. Today there are still families who live in these natural alcoves in the cliffs. There is even a small church carved out of the stone and a tapas bar that serves tasty treats such as cured ham, fresh cheeses, and local wine from its cool and dark interior.
