Holidays to Lanzarote

Introduction

Stepping off the plane on the island of Lanzarote is like stepping into another world where volcanic peaks loom over black and white sand beaches with aquamarine waters and stylish restaurants and bars are housed in ancient lava tubes under the earth. This is the perfect holiday destination for those looking unique landscapes, incredible coastlines, and plenty of outdoor activities.

What to see and do on a Holiday to Lanzarote

The year-round warm weather on Lanzarote makes this the ideal beach holiday locale for travellers of all ages. The coastline of the island is incredibly varied with pristine white sand beaches, swathes of fine black volcanic sand, rocky coves, and dramatic cliffs that plunge into the sea. Many of the beaches have small restaurants set up nearby for meals, snacks, and cold drinks.Picture of Timanfaya National Park
The occasional windy spells that hit the island make the beaches here superb locations for surfing, windsurfing, and parasailing.

One of Lanzarote’s many charms is the volcanic nature of the island. Visitors on a holiday to Lanzarote can explore lunar-like landscapes and gushing geysers in the otherworldly Timanfaya National Park (pictured), or walk through the world’s longest volcanic tunnel of Atlantida that measures in at 7 kilometres. Jameos del Agua is a must-see attraction, as this amazing lava tube has a collapsed roof, and has been converted into a restaurant, bar, gardens, and a concert hall by the renowned architect and artist Cesar Manrique.

Another interesting sight on the island are the vineyards in La Geria, which have been designated as a World Heritage Site. These are no typical vineyards, as the vines have been cordoned off inside hundreds of small semicircles of volcanic stone. This allows the grapes to thrive on the nutrients from the rich volcanic soil without being destroyed by heavy winds. Visitors can tour the many bodegas in La Geria area that offer fascinating tours and coveted tasting sessions.
