Holidays to Koh Lanta

Introduction

Koh Lanta is a long time favourite of travellers looking for an escape from the crowded beaches of the neighbouring islands of Phuket and Koh Phi Phi. Although Koh Lanta does have popular beaches where you can find many bungalows on the sands and lively beach bars at night, the island has still managed to retain much of its natural beauty and laid-back vibe. This is the ideal spot for those looking for a chilled out holiday on a tropical Thai island.

What to see and do on a Holiday to Koh Lanta

A great deal of Koh Lanta’s appeal lies in its beautiful sandy beaches. The best beaches can be found on the west side of the island, and they boast incredible sunsets over the Andaman Sea. Klong Dao is the most popular stretch of sand with a wide sandy beach that shelves gently into the sea. This is a great choice for families with small children, as the sands are clean and the water is calm. For a quieter island getaway, head to the stunning crescent of sand in Kantiang Bay.

Koh Lanta Holidays

If you want to see some history and culture on your holiday to Koh Lanta, Lanta Old Town is an interesting mix of Chinese, Buddhist, Muslim, and sea gypsy influences. Stop for a refreshing fruit juice or a plate of pad Thai at one of the cafes and restaurants here, or shop for curios in the unique shops. The Sea Gypsy village is also interesting for its picturesque houses that rest on stilts above the water.

For a fun day out, take a scuba diving or snorkelling trip to the small islands that lie just a short boat ride away from Koh Lanta. Here you can see stunning coral formations, brightly coloured tropical fish, and interesting marine life. If you ask around, the locals can arrange overnight stays on the small, uninhabited islands offshore, so you can play Robinson Crusoe under the stars. Overnight trips often include a seafood barbecue dinner on the beach with freshly caught snapper, tuna, marlin, or squid.
