Holidays to San Francisco

Introduction

It is hard to find a city more hip and trendy than San Francisco. Perhaps it’s the diverse population that lives here, the laid back vibe, the unique neighbourhoods, the interesting history, or the passion for all things art. Whatever it is, San Francisco makes for a fascinating city break that you won’t experience anywhere else in the world.

What to see and do on a Holiday to San Francisco

One of the best ways to see San Francisco is to jump on one of the historic cable cars that criss-cross the city on three dedicated routes. The cars make their way up steep hills, offering fabulous views of the glittering blue bay, the island prison of Alcatraz, and the glass and steel towers in the San Francisco Holidaysfinancial district. A harbour tour is also a great way to see the iconic Golden Gate Bridge (pictured) and the lovely bays.

You could spend months exploring San Francisco and still not run out of fun things to do every day. Visit fabulous museums like the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art or the Exploratorium, a centre for science and interactive exhibits. Visit the bohemian shops of the Haight-Ashbury neighbourhood where the infamous Summer of Love took place, see contemporary artworks at a funky independent art gallery, or spend some time soaking up the sun in the sprawling Golden Gate Park or on the sands at Baker Beach.

San Francisco is also a top contender for some of the best dining and nightlife in California, and the United States. Start your day with an organic coffee and healthy breakfast at a laid back cafe, head to the Mission for a flavourful lunch of tacos or empanadas, and try Fisherman’s Wharf for some steamed crab and vibrant fish soup. Weekends are all about gorging yourself on dim sum in Chinatown, lingering over sushi lunches, and hitting a pub for local ales and friendly company. By night, the city offers a wealth of jazz lounges, wine bars, sports pubs, underground live music venues, and pulsating nightclubs.
