The Seychelles is a collection of tropical islands in the Indian Ocean. The local currency is the Seychellois rupee but Euros and US dollars are accepted in most places. The local time is 4 hours ahead of the UK and flight time from the UK is around 11 hours.
The Seychelles has 115 islands for you to explore, the largest of which is Mahé. This island is home to the international airport, 90% of the population and the nation’s capital, Victoria. It has the liveliest nightlife and the best shops. There are also a number of spectacular beaches and it offers activities such as diving, fishing and golf. A short plane ride away is Praslin, the second largest island in the group. Here you can visit the incredible Vallée de Mai nature reserve, a UNESCO world heritage site due to its beauty and unique plants and wildlife, which includes the famous Coco-de-Mer, the worlds heaviest nut! For those enjoy a slower pace of life there is the island of La Digue. Here you can watch traditional boat building or spend your time relaxing on the legendary Anse Source d’Argent beach.
The Seychelles enjoys a delightful climate with warm temperatures all year round, rarely dropping below 24°C or rising above 30°C. However, it can become very humid and rainy between December and April so May to November is the best time to visit.
The Seychelles has a reputation as an exclusive destination but it is still possible to find reasonably priced accommodation, food and entertainment. It’s a good idea to take Euros with you as they are accepted almost everywhere and you may be able to negotiate discounts when using them. Try to change small amounts of local currency at any one time as it can be difficult to convert it back to pounds. A guide to the prices of a few common items is included below.
